Fabric, Fiber, & Fighting VII

Sieg Conference Center, Lamar, PA

Nov. 20-22, 2009

very preliminary class list

The Shire of Nithgaard will host its sixth annual textile symposium on the weekend of November 20-22, at the Sieg Conference Center located on Narrows Road in Lamar, PA (no street address). Saturday the 21st will be a day of classes and workshops devoted to fabric, string, and their glorious arts. Melee and tournament combat engagements in a medieval style will be organized by Thorvaldr Frithsamr. The site opens at 2PM on Friday, and closes at noon on Sunday. This year there will be no formal feast, but we will be serving a simple hot dinner on Saturday evening.

We invite all attending to bring relevant books from their personal libraries to contribute to an event reference library. The library will be staffed, and books will not leave the library area. We will also be holding a silent auction to defray costs for teachers - donations are welcome!

The adult weekend fee of $15 ($8 for those under 18) includes a light meal on Friday evening, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. The adult day fee of $8 ($5 for those under 18) includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Dinner will be an additional $5 ($4 for those under 18, free for those under 5). A $3 non-member surcharge will be collected from those over 18 with no proof of SCA membership.

Limited bunk space is available onsite for those staying the weekend. On-board reservations will receive first consideration for on-site sleeping accommodations (48 bunk spaces available, in two 24-bed dormitory rooms). All guests will need to provide their own bedding, but mattresses are provided by the site. Be warned, these are bunk beds. There is a hotel within a few miles, and this is not a Penn State football weekend. Parking is extremely limited at the Sieg Center. There is no room for oversize vehicles, and we urge everyone to carpool as much as possible.

Please send your reservations to the autocrat Iuliia Pavloveia, at: Julia Heinemann 320 Patton Ln. State College, PA 16803, (814) 278-7722 or iuliia_pavloveia at yahoo dot com. All checks are to be made payable to SCA, Inc. - Shire of Nithgaard.

Directions: From everywhere, take your best route to I-80. From interstate 80 take Exit 173 to Lamar (state route 64 south). At the bottom of the exit ramp proceed southward, towards State College, on route 64. Begin looking for SCA signs. Travel 1.9 miles, and then turn left onto Washington Ave. There is a sign for the Lock Haven Conference Center at this intersection. Continue on this road for 3.4 miles (it will turn into Narrows Road). The entrance to the site is on your right (no street address).

From points South of State College Area, take your best route to State College PA, via route 322. From 322 take 26 (which will become state route 64 North) for 26 miles. Turn right onto Washington Ave, at the sign for the Lock Haven Conference Center. Continue on this road for 3.4 miles (it will turn into Narrows Road). The entrance to the site is on your right (no street address).

Some additional information on finding the site: The Sieg Center has no street address. On google maps the road is labeled "Narrows Rd", and heads east from route 64 just south of I-80. The turnoff is labeled "Washington" on the ground, but turns into Narrows Rd fairly quickly - this has led to great confusion in the past. There will be SCA signs, and there is a sign at the intersection with 64 that says "Lock Haven Conference Center". The intersection is only a couple miles south of I-80 on 64, and the conference center is roughly another four miles. Here's the relevant Google map (though without a specific point for the Sieg Center).
