First of all, go read this at Abby’s Yarns.
Then go buy this:
(shameless sponsored Amazon link, or here’s the publisher’s page).
While you’re waiting for the book to arrive, you should also spend some time with the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales de Cusco, don’t you think?
One response to “More other people’s stuff”
Oh, oh, oh. Wow.
Do you know, I got to see Nilda a couple of years ago? She gave a demo/presentation at OCAC, and there were GREAT things for sale woven by the cooperative. That’s where I got the wonderful pickup band I brought to PA to show you! What I couldn’t afford was a gorgeous narrow shawl woven in mauvey/olive colors, even though I was offered a discount (being a student). Watching her weave I thought of the numerous times I’ve read variations on “you can only weave a warp-faced textile a few inches wide”–hah! No one told the Quechua. Nilda sat there with her backstrap loom, weaving a complicated pickup pattern over two feet wide. The demo wasn’t long enough. I had just finished reading all my Peruvian textile books, and it was wonderful to see examples.
Yes, I will be buying a copy!
