The Shire of Nithgaard will once again host a textile symposium on the weekend of November 19-21, at the Sieg Conference Center located on Narrows Road in Lamar, PA (no street address). Saturday the 20th will be a day of classes and workshops devoted to fabric, string, and their glorious arts. Last year we were proud to host teachers and students from four Kingdoms. There will be an open display, and an opportunity to discuss judging and documentation in a non-competitive environment. Melee and tournament combat engagements in a period style will be organized by Lord Thorvaldr Frirsverth.
We invite all attending to bring relevant books from their personal libraries to contribute to an event reference library. The library will be staffed. Books loaned for the library cannot be checked out, but can be used within the confines of the library.
The Sieg Conference Center, operated by Lock Haven University, is comfortably spacious with accommodations for 48 overnight guests in two 24 bed dormitory style rooms, with additional crash-space provided by the populace of Nithgaard upon request. The site opens at noon on Friday the 19th, and closes at noon on Sunday. The hall has a capacity of 200 guests and boasts a newly remodeled kitchen facility. The site is conveniently located five miles south of PA I-80 on state route 64.
*The adult on-board fee of $17 ($13 for those under 18) includes Saturday Brunch, and Dinner, as well as breakfast Sunday morning. Off-board reservations are $10 per person ($6 for those under 18), and includes Brunch on Saturday, and Sunday Breakfast. The day trip fee for Saturday is $5 for adults and $2 for minors. A $3 surcharge for those without current membership cards will be collected at the door.
*Reservations postmarked after November 10th and at the door are $20 for On-Board and $13 for Off-Board (no change for day trippers), so please get your reservations in early!
On-board reservations will receive first consideration for on-site sleeping accommodations. All guests will need to provide their own bedding, but mattresses are provided by the site. Be warned, these are bunk beds. We will take requests for bottom bunks on a first-come, first-served basis.
If communal living is not to your taste, limited crash space in State College is available. There is a Comfort Inn just a couple miles down the road (at I-80), and other hotel options in Lock Haven.
Please note that parking is very limited at this site. If you can possibly carpool, we'd very much appreciate it!
