I don’t expect anyone is surprised, nor do I think that my choice of Presidential candidates is likely to be a secret. (If anyone is somehow unsure, I agree with John Scalzi, but he said it more eloquently, and at greater length.)
I waited nearly an hour, first thing this morning. Knitting, and doing some reading. My county uses touchscreen machines, but nonetheless we had only scantron ballots at my precinct. The electronic machines may be flawed, but they are fast. In an hour and a quarter of voting, only 80 people had made it through.
At least there were cookies.
I will probably be glued to CNN and FiveThirtyEight for the rest of the day, but maybe after that we can get back to some string around here!
Well, except for NaNo. How about after November?

I have voted, too–I carried my ballot, in its envelope, over to the drop box at the library. Hopefully people who share our opinion will prevail. ;)
String and NaNo–I bet you can incorporate string into your novel somehow. Discreet mentions of the weaver’s cottage by the edge of the woods, or descriptions of someone’s carefully hand knit stockings.

That delirious feeling of commencement will break your heart into more pieces the longer you let it hang around like a puppy your father will invariably take to the pound. Better to be clear-eyed about a chance in a real, rational partnership with a leader possessing just what we said was all we ask for in a leader. Like a better, second marriage.
(For anyone who wants to know what Steven is talking about, I commented on John Scalzi’s blog that I understood all the practical, realistic issues that come with Obama as president, but wanted to enjoy the delusion that everything would be wonderful now for just a bit longer, or something to that effect.)
I know, I know. Delusion is bad, and I’m not really delusional. But. I’m a scientist in a government research lab, doing practical work that is of great interest to our country, at least those who like to eat healthy, environmentally sustainable, US-produced food. But I’ve seen budgets cut, scientists gagged or worse for doing research or producing results contrary to party lines, and was truly terrified for myself and the country at the idea of having a president with even less respect for science, as shown by his repeated bashing of research funding in his speeches, and even more clearly by his choice of VP.
It’s been rough, and while I know that many aspects will not improve – you can’t allocate resources that don’t exist – I wanted to spend just a bit of time believing that it will all be okay as soon as they put the new photo up by the front door, before I got back to the practical work of figuring out what we can do with the resources available, and how that’s going to change over the next 4 years.
