Diagrams, diagrams, diagrams

How many ways can I diagram the structure of tablet weaving?

So far, three surface diagrams of different levels of abstraction:

  • turning/structure diagram.
  • warp and weft diagram.
  • surface appearance.

and two different views of the internal processes, one with curves for the top/bottom threads and one without. Those threads are the ones that are seen on the surface of warp-faced bands; the the other warp threads are buried inside. The weft is only visible at the edges and in a few other spots.

These are for only one tablet, but the tools I’m writing will draw out entire packs of tablets, and different turning sequences. Eventually I’ll release them as an R package, but that’s nowhere near ready yet. Still, very pleased with progress so far.

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
