Laura asked for a SOAR update, though she’s a long way away and not attending herself. I got off the waiting list last week, but the only reason I knew was that I contacted them. As a further sign of extreme disorganization on their part, SOAR is being held at a resort hotel that isn’t large enough to hold all the attendees. I could stay there Thursday night, and Saturday night, but not Friday night. That day I could commute from some other regional motel, and purchase the quite expensive meal plan.
No thanks.
I do hope the organizers learn from this experience, and do things differently in the future. Spinning is currently wildly popular, and no longer with just the older, wealthier crowd that had had a monopoly on fiber arts for so long.
SOAR is so close, though, that I am going for a day for the shopping and to meet people I know online.
For them, and anyone else who wants to say hi, I’ll be wearing my new shirt.
I spent yesterday evening designing shirts, and part of the afternoon making them up. Not only do I have a new stringpage shirt for SOAR, I have a new “Winter in AEthelmearc” shirt.
And a Halloween shirt as well.
(No, actually I couldn’t wait for Nick to get home, and did take that photo in the hall mirror.)
I will be doing some of these to sell, but I need to get a heat press first. You can set them with an iron, but it’s difficult to get it right. Just got to think of some more SCA and fiber arts designs!

How cool! I’ll keep an eye out for the shirt – hard to miss that!
I’m going to try to fly up there with my hat and boots – but not sure how much of the time I’ll wear them in the hall. Otherwise, I’ll have a hand-woven TW name tag. I finally made up the small one also, which won’t be quite as visible from across a room, but also won’t drag in the dye kettle!
Back to plan B for attendance? Oh well. At least you’ll get to visit people! Any classes?
On a somewhat related note, have you come across this? http://www.socksummit.com/
I must learn how to knot socks very soon, so as to profit as much as possible from the classes that should be available.
But first I have to learn how to knit lace from the fabulous stuff I’m spinning right now–I’m not sure how much yardage I’ll get, and in order to knit something as large as possible, I figured that many holes were in order. I’ll finish the first skein in the next day or so. :) I’m very excited about it!
Yes, the Sock Summit it looks like great fun. I might use it as an excuse to come visit, if it didn’t overlap Pennsic.
