We got a hard frost Saturday night, and that was it for the tomatoes. Also the basil. I’d gotten most of the tomatoes off, but didn’t pick the last of the basil. It was 80F last week; I wasn’t expecting everything to go away quite so quickly. We finally closed the windows, but haven’t turned on the heat yet.

Even with the tender greenery now shriveled and brown, there is plenty of interest in the autumn garden. The female holly is showing off her berries.

The mahonia likewise, with similar leaves but different colors.

The trees are preparing themselves for winter.

And I’m preparing myself for raking.

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
