You gotta see this!

Sprang thingie.

Worse, I want to make one, just for the fun of figuring out how to do it in the round like that.

Edit: More on sprang thingie, thanks Alwen!

    That is totally cool!

You could set up the warp the regular way (for sanity) then attach it around a large cardboard tube–or an appropriately sized box–and then just sprang around and around. However, it would be more satisfying to have the rings be integral. Enough more satisfying to be worth the annoyance. :)

Tricky would be shed sticks; a stiff cord would probably be easier than a multitude of little sticks.

I want one, too. And I have brass rings at home…

Last night on my way home, I revised my opinion on the construction of this object. I think that it’s more likely it was made flat and then sewn shut; the easiest way to get all those rings inside. Of course, I then had to figure out a way it *could* have been done three-dimensionally.

Have you seen Hella Skowronski’s book? http://www.amazon.com/Sprang-thread-twisting-creative-technique/dp/0442276427/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227645329&sr=1-1
I just ordered it, now feeling the compulsion to peruse it again.

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
