Today was the first day of Penn State classes. My sleepy little town of 39,000 added 43,00 Penn State student, more than doubling in a single weekend. Every year it is just as disturbing to suddenly have hordes of undergrads disturbing the peace and quiet.

Tonight was knitting night at the local public library. I think I figured out the edging for the lace scarf I started ages ago. The pattern hadn’t made any sense to me initially, and I never sat down to work through it. But wool scarves will be appealing again in the not-so-distant future, so I thought it was time. After a couple of abortive attempts to actually knit the edging, I switched to scrap yarn, and finally figured it out. Yes, you do a yarnover at the end of a row, and amazingly it works!

It will be scarf season someday soon: I applied a blanket and a dog in bed last night. The dog, of course, was quite willing to snuggle up and sleep all night. The cat was self-applying, and only when and where he wanted, with frequent breaks for snacks.

And: 3000-year-old butter! (But they didn’t taste it.)

One response to “Already?”

When I was trying to figure out how to do the Brioche stitch, it was the YO at the beginning of the row that totally threw me…it is a good feeling to finally “get it” and have those needles click!

off to check out the butter link ~

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
