My brother Nathan is quite a bit younger than I am – enough so that when I moved out of the house for college he was also shorter than me. Not so any more.
(Nick is the shorter one, and he’s not actually short.) It was rather interesting seeing Nathan once or twice a year, on school breaks. He was several inches taller each time. Wow.
That was a while ago, of course, and now he’s married to Laura and they just bought a lovely old fixer-upper house last summer.
When Nate was in elementary school, he learned how to make “Dutch Mini-pancakes.” These thin wafers slathered in butter and coated in powdered sugar were a favorite, and were very, very tasty. I don’t remember why his class learned about them – maybe he will leave a comment and tell us.
When I was in the Netherlands this fall, I had the opportunity to try the real thing.
They’re called poffertjes, and unlike the ones Nathan made, are very puffy. His were more like mini-crepes. The butter and powdered sugar part was the same, and both kinds are yummy. (In fact, I’m making myself hungry right now!)
So Nate, do you still have the recipe? We should have a pancake cook-off! Flat and puffy Dutch pancakes, with lots of powdered sugar.
Oh, and happy birthday Nate!
Love,
Sarah

and, I still have his recipe in his hand writing!
I don’t suppose you could be persuaded to type it in, either as a comment or as an email to me? Or possibly even a photo of the original?? *grin*
Thanks sis!
Gee I look tall from your angle. WHould have been fun to take a shot at the front door (at least 3 inches shorter than me)
Mom: glad to hear you have recipe, I think that was 4th grade when we made them… I don’t remember why either.
Me thinks we need to make some soon, you know, just for practice…
P.S. I’m now beardless and my hair’s been trimmed, just in time for the cold ;-)
