I spent the week in southern Pennsylvania training field staff from all over the US in plant identification. We had plenty of eager onlookers.

After two consecutive weeks of travel, I’m happy to be home again until mid-May.

This last photo was an accident, but I kind of like it.

Cows can be more curious than people give them credit for. When I was an undergraduate, we did an archaeological dig in a cow pasture, and the cows would hang out and watch (from a safe distance). We’d pack up and leave, and by the time we had lugged our equipment to the far end of the field, the cows would be examining the holes we’d been digging. And leaving meadow cow presents.

Typo. I almost typed “meadow muffins,” which is how we referred to them. Cow pats, that is. I really need to go home right now–it’s been a long week!

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
