Aiy-aiy-aiy.

I would like to report that 15-hour workdays are conducive neither to blogging nor playing with string. So, nothing new. I haven’t even gotten everything put away from Pennsic yet, although Nick was very helpful and did all the laundry and put away many things. I’m very tired, haven’t been home, and haven’t been able to do anything else. Next week will be better.

Today, though, was different. I went to work very early for a few hours, then dashed off to Bellefonte for most of the day. The Centre County Historical Museum opened a new exhibit on the spinning and weaving equipment that they own, and had a weaver and a spinner there to demo some modern equipment and give quick lessons. Oddly, I was the spinner.

Spinning display

The books aren’t mine, but this was the main part of my spinning display: cotton, silk, wool (including naturally-dyed samples), flax, and lots of wool. I spent some time spinning my own stuff and some time teaching. Fun!

I haven’t decided yet whether to go to work tomorrow or back to Bellefonte for the second day of the museum open house. Either way, you’ll have to wait for more details on the spinning, since I’m going to bed now. (Ah, sleep!) I didn’t want to leave you for too long with no pretty pictures of string.

Ooh, pretty! I think I recognize a couple of spindle whorls, too! :) I actually did a little string stuff this weekend, which was nice. And sleep, which was _really_ nice.

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
