Piles of silk

I’ve been saving up tidbits for you, but didn’t get to them this weekend because I did this instead.

dyed silk

That’s 5,400 yards of silk in ten colors. [No wait! I woke up in the middle of the night and realized that’s really 6,400 dyed yards, or 64 skeins.] At the beginning of the weekend it was all on cones like the one in the back left, glistening whitely. The back skeins are nearly dry; the front piles just came out of their last rinse. (Photo not so great, sorry – it’s dark out and I used the flash, which does not do a good job with textile colors.)

Everything needs to dry completely, be wound onto bobbins, and be sent on its merry way.

Right now, time to hang it up to dry and go watch Doctor Who, drink beer, and eat nachos.

Well done! Beautiful dark and rich colors!

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
